One of the two motorcycle sets from the Lego Hobby series of 1976 was the Lego Nr. 393, a period Norton 850 Commander.

Here the model has been recreated at miniland (1:20) scale for Flickr LUGNuts 55th Build Challenge - 'Rubber Side Down, Shiny Side Up' - celebrating two wheels in the form of Motorcyles and related vehicles.

Another submission for Flickr LUGNuts 55th Build Challenge - ' Shiny Side Up, Runner Side Down' - celebrating all things motorcycle-like. This bike is denoted 'Cafe Racer One'. A short frame, fat rear tyre, exposed forks, and low hand-bars denote a street fighter. Chrome-ringed radiator shroud, single exhaust pipe show a bit of high-street credentials. Other styling elements include a egg-form tank trim, single dial intruments and single, small headlamp.

Miniland scale motorcycles are not straight forward to build, but are a valuable diversity to the miniland scale automotive streetscape.

Another submission for Flickr LUGNuts 55th Build Challenge - 'Rubber Side Down, Shiny Side Up' - the Twin Pipe Cruiser. A generic Motorcycle form, sharing cues with Harley Davidson, Ducati, Moto Guzzi and other classic bikes. The Twin Pipe Cruiser has a longitudinal vee-engine and extravegant chome plated pipes running the length of the chassis. Unfortunately, the length of this particular lego part defined the architecture rather than the other way around, the pipes obviously not meeting at the cylinder heads (without some artistic interpretation).

The other design features on the motorcycle are a long wheelbase (hence Cruiser nomenclature, twin headlights, naked-style fame and a low tail. The motorcycle colour scheme is red paint, black chassis, with a dark grey front wheel, black rear wheel and various grey and chrome trims.

The forth true miniland scale entry for LUGNuts 55th Build Challenge - 'Rubber side down. Shiny side up' - is this customised ride - Hell Razor.

Another street fighter, this time with a cracked skull tank-side motif and horn seat motif. Exhausts exit via the left hand side on a grazed, chrome side pipe. Again the chrome-ringed ratior makes an appearance, matched by chrome detail on the topside of the fuel tank.

A dual, stacked headlamp design makes an appearance, taking the sticker feature from the Lego Nr. 8371 'Extreme Power Bike' from the 'Drome Racers' theme of 2003.

Other features are a single dial intrument set, and a small wedge wind deflector.

Hell Razor is a tough bike for a tough biker, and it makes it's intent clear to all.

More Miniland Plus than Miniland, the Big Dirt Bike is a rework of the trail bikes riding on my Lego City Dirt Bike Transporter.

Upping the wheel diameter from 30.4 mm to 43.2 adds to the ground clearance and off-roaderiness. Adding a posable rider adds to the cool factor and realism.

What I found in the translation from LDD to bricks was a bike that was pretty robust, and a posable figure who really wasn't so much. Biggest weakness was the rotational loosness of the hips. Otherwise, he can do pretty much anything - he is a bit tricky to pose on the bike though, as he isn't gripped by any Lego clutch mechanism.
