Iconic sentinel of the Haines Highway in the Stikine region of British Columbia, Canada. (or is this Yukon Territory? I am never quite sure, markings and boundaries are non-existent in this glorious wilderness)

In the distance, the Haines Highway approaches, then snakes along the foot of and around this majestic peak on Chilkat Pass.

Aurora Corona, strong northern lights directly overhead, seem to radiate down from a distant, central location in the night sky.

See the Big Dipper (Ursa Major) near the 'vanishing point' or 'point of origin'.

Meager, rather faint lights in the very early (5 a.m.) sky, veiled in thin overcast. It seems that toward the end of northern lights displays, as morning nears, the lights take on a shimmering, flickering quality, rather than gathering into bands and curtains of strong coalesced color.

Too much daylight now to get good northern lights photos... but... if I happen to get up in the night and they are out there, then there I go! This show was a surprise, with it's unusual colors and intensity, in an almost twilight sky. Around 2 am, the sun is wending it's way around the planet, not too far below the northern horizon, as the due north horizon indicates.
