After a rainy night camping in the Tongass boreal rain forest, the morning sun brought a warm, welcome glow to the steamy-damp woods.

There were 5 of these massive 'floating hotels' docked in Skagway Alaska when our ferry M/V Fairweather pulled in to berth.

Dwarfing our 235 ft Alaska State Ferry, (the 'poor man's cruise line') these cruise ships from several international flags carry upwards of 4000 people each. Each ship discharges four times the population of Skagway....

Viewed from the enclosed forward observation deck of the M/V Fairweather.

Nestled close to the Takshanuk Mountains and green from mineral glacial flour, Chilkoot Lake is rich with my favorite fish, sockeye salmon, (Oncorhynchus nerka).

Here's something we don't see often where I live; the thistle, not the spider.

I was delighted to see a large Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense) not only blooming, but hosting a tiny crab spider (Misumena vatia).

What a glorious, gorgeous, wonderful place. Green waters from glacial flour, from it's glacial source in the Takshanuk Mountains. Surrounded by massive rain forest Sitka spruce and mighty western hemlock.
