Nature's preferred, insistent and persistent formation is a hexagon, and the structure of hoarfrost is no exception. Impossible to see with the naked eye, it is so fascinating to get a close up shot to reveal one of Nature's tiny miracles.

I used three extension tubes (13mm, 21mm and 31mm) added to the macro lens.

We have been above zero for three days in a row, (unheard of around here, fully 30 degrees above average) so when snowflakes came down, there were good conditions to create pretty dendrites like this. By the millions. 😊
