Two people have recently been killed by black bears (Ursus americanus) in Alaska, in as many days.
We generally think of grizzlies as much more of a threat, often forgetting that the smaller and seemingly less aggressive black bears can be a danger as well. Both people who were killed were caught completely unaware.
