These tiny denizens of winter appear between the panes of my patio door when winter temperatures dip to around -40 or colder. Sustained cold will make them grow a bit each day.
Any other season of the year, we are completely unaware there is any moisture between the layers of glass, but ohhhh come the cold, and a little magic happens.

Our first night cold enough to produce these little frost creations between the sealed panes of the patio door glass.
At no other time are we aware of any moisture between the panes of glass, except when the temperature drops down into the -30s F. It was -35° F this morning, -37 C.
