I was so surprised to come around a corner in the road and see a half-dozen or so snow geese settled right down on the warm pavement of a roadside turnout.

Snow geese normal migration routes generally do not take them over interior Alaska, I have never seen one before. Their migration routes usually follow the coast, to take them to the extremes of Arctic coastal Alaska, and far northern Arctic Canada.
