Lupinus arcticus, probably the shortest variety of all lupines, generally about a foot (30cm) tall. Hairy leaves and flowers, as is quite common in most Arctic flowers.

Warnings on Interior Alaska rivers (Yukon, Kuskokwim, Tanana) of ice jams forming, causing flooding in a few areas.

This area at present looks free of ice jams, but low water might be an indicator that there is possibly an ice jam farther upriver.

Male northern yellow shafted flicker (Colaptes auratus) seems to have claimed a barely visible cavity in this injured tree for his nesting place. He has hammered for days and attracted a female, who has also been checking out the nest site.
