Lupines (Lupinus arcticus) are just starting too bloom in the woods, hillsides and along the roadways.

Short and stubby when compared to other, more southern species, farther north they are incredibly short... only a couple of inches. These are about 12" (30cm)

Not native to my arid area, but with a bit of attention to moisture, this Kamchatka lily (Fritillaria camschatcensis) has managed to thrive near my small pond.

Commonly called chocolate lily because of it's color, also skunk lily or outhouse lily because of it's *ahem* distinctive odor.
