Just a couple of days before this big cow moose wandered into my door cam view, now she has come with a brand new calf!

She must have given birth within the last day or so, probably right here in the woods, withing sight of my house. What a delight.

Captured by my front door camera, this cow moose lingered around the yard much of the day. No calf in tow.
We see moose from time to time in poor condition with large patches of hair missing, not sure why. I've always just assumed it was old age after a long, hard life. Could be there is a disease factor, or possibly a parasitic infection.

Anybody know?

A big female moose has been hanging around the area, mostly browsing in the twilight and darkness hours, bedding down during the day.

This video was captured by my front door ring camera, when it was around 50 degrees below zero. Her hooves crunch and squeak loudly on the hard cold snow.

-40 this morning, hopefully our last cold snap.

A big pregnant moose walks around the front of the house, browsing on lilacs, a small crab apple and birch saplings.

Mother and calf moose came through the yard in the night and helped themselves to a smorgasbord of flowers... even reaching up to the deck rail planters, some 7 feet off the ground.

Many flowers that weren't eaten outright were pulled from the dirt and scattered on the ground. 😧
