First pretty sunset in a very long time, and it only lasted a moment. But it was one of those natural moments that make your spirit soar, and the whole day becomes just a bit sweeter.

Recently pine grosbeaks (Pinicola enucleator) have been coming to the seed feeders, preferring the open platform feeder. But... a certain female, perhaps a bit higher in the 'pecking order', is feeding there and doesn't tolerate table companions.

These three males are tolerating each other quite well on this feeder as they wait for their female counterpart to vacate their preferred feeder.

I am often indifferent to snow, even grumpy about it when it comes down in heaps. But once in awhile, conditions are just right and nature hands us millions of tiny jewels among the billions of graupel, needles, plates and columns.
