Another wild 'transplant' to my yard, a lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta var. latifolia) showing a cluster of male pollen producing cones on a branch terminal. (female cones are much larger and usually produced near the top of the tree)
I collected this 'exotic' (I don't think there are any lodgepole pine anywhere in mainland Alaska), but perhaps in the southeast panhandle area) from an area near Watson Lake in southern Yukon CA.

Light dusting of snow on the Cathedral Mountains, a touch of autumn color in the birches and willows, and a calm morning at the pond for mirror reflection.

Sweet and lovely, small-flowered columbine (Aqilegia brevistyla) are blooming in the woods, mostly in popple groves and fairly open areas. They naturalize easily in my gardens, from seeds harvested in the wild.
Tiny flowers, perhaps 2.5 cm, one inch across.
Farthest north columbine species on the planet, in my part of Alaska as well as parts of north and western Canada.
