I'm not saying I got many shots like this with the Snow Buntings flying straight at me - 2 in fact out of about 1,000 taken - but you only need 1 :-).
Although I am sure having a 2x TC on the Nikon 400/4.5 slows AF and tracking down a bit - this is probably made up for by the small size and low weight of the combination allowing you to hand hold for long periods of time and 'easily' track birds in flight.

A great day with my buddy Peter Spencer at his hide near Yeovil, UK.
The sun only shines in Weymouth but today I brought just a little with me to Somerset.
Yesterday's effort..........Female Kingfisher, my first with the beak just touching the water before she enters.....Well happy!! In fact I'm ecstatic as it's taken me years to get!
