Pretty flowers attract bees and butterflies. However, beneath many a pretty flower there lurks danger. In this case, it is a white and brown crab spider. The photo was taken in my flower garden and is a tangible reminder that the natural world is a dangerous place. See large. The photo was taken in September 2021, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Enjoy and stay well.
P.S. I am very busy in the garden planting this year's vegetables.

It is a tough world out there even for spiders. Count the legs. I came across this spider short one leg moving at a fair speed on my back porch. The photo was taken in the summer of 2009, with an Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.

Taking this kind of shot can be pretty tricky. There are many factors to account for. The spider is moving, and its weight not only pulls the thread downwards, but the spider tends to bounce in the process. As well, the breeze tends to blow the whole web back and forth. Last, you have to account for the spider's speed with your macro lens. If you use a high speed you lose detail; if you use too slow a speed, you get blur. This was a good practice exercise for me. Let me know what you think so that I can improve my method. Thanks. The photo was taken in September 2010, with my trusty digital camera. Enjoy.

I came across this clump of newly hatched baby spiders in my garden. I discovered that it is rather difficult to photograph them because they are so small and the clump is constantly moving. It is hardly a perfect picture, but I thought it was pretty interesting and worth sharing. The photo was taken in May 2010, with an Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.

We tend to view gardens as places of beauty and peace. However, among the pretty petals, danger often lurks. This photo shows a tiny white crab spider patiently waiting for its next meal. Sometimes it hides on the underside of the New England asters and then comes out to strike. I do not know what the size ratio of predator to prey is in this case. I saw a bumble bee land on this flower, and the spider, perhaps a third of its size, did not make a move on the bumble bee. ;) The photo was taken in September 2021, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Enjoy and stay well.
