This is another shot from the wilds of my backyard in suburban Vancouver. Stellar Blue Jays are infrequent visitors to our backyard. On a wet and cloudy morning, this one landed on a low branch about eight feet away. I was so startled that I barely had time to turn my camera (my 300mm lens happened to be fully extended) and get a quick head shot or two before it flew off. Although the shot was rushed and the focus not terribly sharp, this photo captures something of this bird's dramatic character. Robins rarely visit our garden. However, I was fortunate enough to see this one in our pear tree on a rainy fall afternoon. If you look closely, there are drops of rain on its head and rain is falling in the background. I took a couple of shots of this forlorn looking robin before it flew away.
