This small cob and thatched cottage was the birthplace of the English author Thomas Hardy in 1840. It was built by his grandfather in 1800 and is now in the possession of the National Trust.

Parts of this small secluded village Church at Batcombe, Dorset date from the 15th century although there has probably been a Church on the same site since the 11th century.

My great grandmother was baptised here in 1866 as were 8 of her 11 brothers and sisters.

The construction of Corfe Castle dates back to just after the Norman conquest of England in 1066. It was destroyed by Parliamentarian forces in 1645 during the English Civil War.
