This is one of several hundred parish Churches in Great Britain dedicated to St Michael. It is located in Tilehurst, Reading and dates from 1189, some 70 years after the nearby Reading Abbey was founded by King Henry I. St Michaels Church was served by monks from the Abbey until the Dissolution of the Monasteries ordered by King Henry VIII in 1538.

Little remains of the original building which has undergone several changes over the centuries, the most notable being in the 1850’s when the Victorians added the spire to the tower.

The Church of St Michael in Tilehurst dates back to 1189 although the oldest parts visible in the present building date from circa 1300. Originally the Church was served by monks from nearby Reading Abbey until the dissolution of the monasteries between 1536 to 1541. It has been part of the Diocese of Oxford since 1542.

The Church was heavily restored in the mid 19th century when the spire was added.
