Another dabble with black and white! Taken a few days ago in the grounds of the Vyne, a National Trust property in North Hampshire.

The house dates from 16th century and was built for King Henry VIII's Lord Chamberlain, Lord Sandys. It was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1958 by the then owner Sir Charle Chute.

It has been a grade 1 listed building since April 1957 giving it legal protection from demolition or major alteration without prior consent from the Local Authority, Basingstoke and Deane Council.

This house is located in the grounds of Greys Court, a National Trust property in South Oxfordshire.

I like the way the stone tower which dates from the 14th century has been incorporated into a later dated building to provide living accommodation.

A Dower House was a home that provided a comfortable standard of living for a widow who derived her title from a deceased husband. Usually on the husband's death his title, the main house and any associated land would pass to the eldest son and the widow would spend the rest of her life as a dowager.
