The Whitchurch Toll Bridge is an important link across the River Thames and connects the villages of Whitchurch in Oxfordshire and Pangbourne in Berkshire.
Several thousand vehicles a day use the bridge but it has been closed to all except pedestrians since October 2013 for rebuilding and was scheduled to reopen in April 2014. However, in the last few days it has been announced that recent weather problems have delayed work and it is not expected to reopen until July 2014. Understandably, local residents and traders are not happy.
On the day this photograph was taken the floods had receded but the river is flowing too fast to allow safe work to continue for the time being.
