I have not been able to get out and about to take any photographs in the last couple of months and like many people find the month of January very depressing. Thought I would try to find something from a better time of the year and came across this from a couple of hours spent in the lovely and ancient village of Lower Slaughter in the Cotswolds.

Despite its sinister name, it must be one of the most beautiful villages in Britain and on this particular Spring day a lovely place to be even though we had to dodge a few rain showers!

These cottages, alongside the River Eye, date from the mid 1800’s and are connected to the main road on the opposite bank by footbridges such as this one.

What a lovely place to live!

This photograph is of the lovely Cotswold village of Lower Slaughter in Gloucestershire.

The village is quiet and does not seem to be as badly affected by tourism as some other villages in the Cotswolds. This may have something to do with the fact that access roads are rather narrow and not totally suited to coach traffic. Parking is also more limited than other places which is a bonus to those wishing to fully appreciate the location.

The water in the foreground is the River Eye which also runs through the nearby village of Upper Slaughter and eventually into the River Dikler.

For obvious reasons I have not been out and about as much as I would like in recent weeks and have taken the opportunity to sort through some of my older photographs. I may content myself with posting some of these for the time being.

This one dates back to April 2017 during a visit to Snowshill Manor in Gloucestershire. The signs of Spring are clearly visible by the daffodils but sadly, for the moment, all National Trust properties are closed for the foreseeable future so a further visit is out of the question.

Snowshill Manor was given to the National Trust in 1951 by Charles Paget Wade, an eccentric man who amassed an massive collection of objects that simply interested him. The house was built in the 16th century and is not the biggest National Trust property we have visited and the front of the building is not overly impressive. However, the inside is amazing - it is literally full to capacity with so many items that it is difficult to take it all in. A worthwhile visit!

Finally, I trust everyone will stay safe during these troubled and uncertain times and normality will soon be restored.

The Old Mill is located alongside the River Eye in the lovely Cotswold village of Lower Slaughter in Gloucestershire.

A mill was recorded on this site in the Domesday Book, compiled for William the Conqueror in 1086. The present structure is much more recent and contains a museum, café and shop.
