The shed closed to steam in August 1967, and today (2024) the site is occupied by an industrial estate..

Taken on April 14th 1962

Ex-LMS Fowler locos at Northampton Castle station on a sunny day in April 1962, during the Stephenson Locomotive Society ‘Tour of Seven Branch Lines’ railtour.
On the left is 3P 2-6-2T 40026, with condensing gear and feed-water pump for operation over the Widened Lines in London. It had entered service in 1931, and was withdrawn at the end of 1962.
On the right is 2P 4-4-0 40646, which had entered service in 1931, and was withdrawn in May 1962.
No examples of either class survived into preservation..
Northampton Castle station was completely demolished and rebuilt in the mid-1960s, in 'modern/brutalist' style, and renamed to just 'Northampton', and today (2024) all lines are electrified..
Restored from an under-exposed misaligned cyan-colour-shifted original..
Original slide - property of Robert Gadsdon
