81014 dropping down into Wigan, viewed from the foot crossing.
This is Whitley Crossing if you're local or Rylands Crossing if you're railway. Whitley was the name of a school to the right of the photo. The foot crossing was a walking route for school kids.
Needless to say the option of standing next to the ballast as trains storm past at nearly 100mph has now been curtailed. A footbridge has now been put up along with an expanse of high fences.
