GNW's Volvo B7RLE route learner 6172, resplendent (as things in heritage liveries must always be) in Wigan Corporation livery on Hallgate at the back of Wigan Bus Station.

6172 started life with East Yorkshire Motor Services which later became part of the Go Ahead Group. It's one a of a number of training vehicles in commemorative liveries.

After a mild night (minus six the car said) everything seemed to be running normally, at least by the time the 0925 605 Beech Hill Circular reached the top of Woodhouse Lane. The frost didn't shift though, giving the traffic light a badly-photoshopped-in look, which it isn't. There was always the option of badly photoshopping it out I suppose.

Bee Network / Go North West Enviro 200 4037 (YX17 NJK) crosses the junction from Park Road to Woodhouse Lane on the 1145 Wigan Bus Station - Appley Bridge Circular service.

4037 is following the route of the Wigan - Martland Mill tramway along Park Road / Woodhouse Lane. Another tram route from Wigan via Frog Lane joined at this location, which might explain the odd shape of the junction itself - Frog Lane joins Woodhouse Lane which continues to the bottom right of this photo.

By 1925 the trams had been replaced by trolleybuses. By 1931 the trolleybuses themselves had been replaced by those new-fangled petrol buses.

Springfield Road - where the cars are stood at the lights - would get a bus service to Beech Hill in the 1930s, presumably to better serve the Beech Hill council estate which was built around 1933.
