This electric ferry was ordered in 2017 by Brittany Ferries. She was laid down in 08/2018 and launched in 12/2018 by Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft, Flensburg, Germany. She was to have been operated by Brittany Ferries as Honfleur, but they cancelled the contract in 2020 after extended delays. The incomplete vessel was then taken to Fosen Yard at Trondheim, Norway, for completion. In 03/2023 she was renamed Rusadir for a six-month charter to Baleària and entered service in 05/2023. With a GTW 42400 and a length of 187.4m, she can carry 1,670 passengers and 650 vehicles. The Rusadir is fully electric and has an electric plant with dual LNG engines, technology that enables it to run on various fuels. These engines can alternate between fuel oil and natural gas consumption. She has a speed of 22 knots and is seen here in the Port of Málaga, Spain, on 31/07/2023. She sails under the flag of Cyprus with a home port of Limassol. This photo was taken from the lovely Castillo de Gibralfaro. © Peter Steel 2023.
