A starling is about to join a companion hitching a ride aboard a bison at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge in Denver, Colorado. This refuge is at the former site of a chemical weapons manufacturing plant that was closed in 1992. The site has been remediated and today is the home of a herd of bison, wintering bald eagles, prairie dogs and many other species. For more information see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocky_Mountain_Arsenal and www.fws.gov/refuge/rocky_mountain_arsenal/ . As always thank you for your comments!

The Teton range provides a magnificent backdrop to a lone bison feeding among the grasses and sagebrush.

Street scene along Main Street in Ouray, Colorado. Kitty was sleeping in a basket right behind the store sign announcing that she was for sale (along with the contents of the shop). She was snoozing with her paw on the dirty glass. Sorry for the grunginess of the window, but I actually think it adds to the "ambiance." BTW - Owner is going back to school.

Chipmunks enjoying the last bit of Colorado mountain sunshine before a storm rolled in. It snowed later in the evening.

We found a great four wheel drive side road up near Red Mountain Pass above Ouray, Colorado that had a nice little cascading stream and a colony (not sure what to call a group of them!) of pikas (Ochotona princeps). We had a great time listening to them call alerts back and forth and then trying to spot one close enough to get a decent photo. To hear a short clip of their vocalizations go to this link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4U9IxhQSTc.

Here is another link that describes their behavior and habitat - www.nhptv.org/natureworks/americanpika.htm.
