Bargoed Signal Box - the token instrument can be seen on the left behind the signalman. Each token is endorsed with name of the journey on it (Bargoed to Rhymney) and handed to the train driver prior to the single track journey to Rhymney. The token is then handed back to the signalman at Bargoed prior to the onward journey along the double track for stations to Cardiff.

Little Mill Junction Signal Box, not an easy place to find (I used Google Earth to help me), is situated approximately 10km south of Abergavenny at the junction of the A4042 and A472. It was built in 1883 by McKenzie and Holland for the Great Western Railway and has 17 levers with vertical tappet interlocking, 9 of which are active. In addition, it has an Entrance-Exit (NX) panel for signalling and is a transition point between automatic and manual block. It is also the first signal box on the Marches line north of Newport.

I am not sure if the 'box has achieved grade II listed status, but according to my research is scheduled to be decommissioned in 2017.

I uploaded a similar image to this one a week ago. The ideal shot though is from the side, not head on, but the overgrowth made that shot impossible. This time though, armed with heavy duty secateurs and steps, I was lucky enough to get the ideal POV for the shot. Interestingly, there was no car at the signal box (the first time I have seen this) and all the signals except for the up goods starter were permanently set to clear. Details: 66301, with the diverted 4V38 “Tesco Express”, Daventry to Wentloog service, passes through the idyliic and still semaphored location of Pontrilas, a stone’s throw from the English-Welsh border in Herefordshire.

Colas Grids on the 3S33 Swindon – Ledbury RHTT pass the pegs at Ledbury with 56078 at the front and 56302 at the rear. I have for some time wanted to photograph the box and pegs at Ledbury and this seemed an ideal time to do it with the 56 locos.
