I have a regular Tuesday photography student up in Azabudai and for a change, last week, instead of going home through Roppongi I walked down past the Tokyo Tower to Hamamatsucho. I just got to the old gate on the main road and the heavens opened. In the shelter of the arch, such shelter that it was with about 15 people huddling there, I got out the 300mm and started shooting.
This crowd of salarymen were heading towards me, a good distance away. The DX crop on the D300 is awesome with this lens sometimes, giving me 450mm and less depth-of-field than normal at f/4. Not a small lens, but fun to shoot with in the street.

Boy, did it rain today! And it hasn't stopped yet, either. I was down at the press club in Yurakucho, giving a lesson to one my students: an indoor lesson, thank goodness. Not the day to be trapsing around outside but, as Tokyo always looks so great in the rain, I went outside after I finished teaching and did a little shooting. I was under the railway bridge out of the rain, sniping the crowds crossing the road by the station with my 300mm lens. Got some great shots. The light was lovely and the rain, frozen by this fast shutter-speed, looked amazing.
View large to get the rain to full effect. If you cant do that on Flickr, maybe because you arent a contact, see it here:

I did a photowalk with Sanny and Ryan, who are in town from Australia. We met in Nippori and did some of the Yanaka/Nezu trail and ended up down in Okachimachi. Great walk. Great weather. Lovely guys. This shot was special though. I just had a feeling that something was going to happen and changed from the 85mm to the 300mm f/4, which I decided for some reason to pack in my bag today. Catching this lovely moment was my reward.

I'd finished teaching and Jono and I had then finished shooting the magazine assignment for 'Q' Magazine up in Nezu. Afterwards we headed down to Ueno for a little while. We were sat on the steps by the main entrance to the park and this fella was standing with his bell as all the commuters walked past. Interesting scene. Twin worlds of Japan. The busy crowd flowing past, heading to work and the priest; still, motionless except for the occasional 'ding' of his bell.
