A sandhill crane makes a pass in early morning light at the Festival of Cranes. The Bosque Del Apache Wildlife Refuge in the winter months is a wonderful place for photographers who are interested in improving their bird skills. I signed up for a morning session with Arthur Morris and Denise Ippolito who were extremely open and sharing of their knowledge and experience. "The Art of Bird Photography" by Arthur Morris is also an excellent resource to improve bird and other photographic skills. In this shot, my timing is a bit late on the crane, but I like the way the light is hitting its underside and also the angles being complimentary to the background. First evening at the Festival of Cranes, I was driving around to scout areas to photograph. As the sun was setting, this seemed like a good vantage point. When the snow geese took off, it made for a fun experience. Bosque Del Apache Wildlife Refuge, New Mexico, USA, November 2014

Most of the migrating flocks have taken off to feeding grounds by mid-morning at Bosque. A few stragglers remain at the northeast pond. The pastel-like tones to this scene caught my attention. Bosque Del Apache Wildlife Refuge, New Mexico, USA, November 2014
