View to the west from Mount Scott in Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge. At 2,464 feet, Mount Scott is the second-highest mountain in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, but it remains the most well-known and regularly visited. The peak was named in honor of General Winfield Scott. Granted it is not nearly the biggest hill, but where I live, the highest elevation gain is maybe 100 feet, so it's a nice get away that is fairly close at only a few hours drive. It was very windy that day so the leaves are a bit blurred. Indiahoma, Oklahoma, USA, April 2015

Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge has a herd of approximately 600 wild longhorn cattle. These longhorns are not like the domesticated stock at the local ranches in Texas. They are truly wild and are fairly skittish around people, especially if they have calves. I used a high aperture for depth of field and allowed the herd to blur. It didn't matter to me that the cattle were sharp in this image. I could have cranked the ISO to freeze the action, but then it would be grainy. What would be your preference?

This little critter took a quick break from its afternoon snack to check out the crowd. Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge, Indiahoma, Oklahoma, USA, April 2015

Cliff wall along the roadside travelling up to the top of Mount Scott. The yellow coloring on the rocks is lichen. Photographed handheld from my car seat, but that was the best vantage point. Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge, Indiahoma, Oklahoma, USA, April 2015

Bison losing its winter coat makes for some nice patchwork patterns and texture on him. Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge has a herd of approximately 600 bison on its 59,000 acre property. The Bison is also known as the American Buffalo even thought it is not a true buffalo. Somehow the name just stuck. Indiahoma, Oklahoma, USA, April 2015
