More from the CRC. This is still the first day. Howard called in the instructions to set up with the great horned owl and shoot it backlit. Great idea as it added a glow to the wing feathers which is pretty cool. This bird seemed to having a good time making the runs with mouth open and screeching away. Matt did a great job handling the owl. Having already deleted the easily identified bad shots, there are still over 1,800 images to sort through and whittle down the final keepers.
It's going to take time. Ontario, Canada, October 2017

More from the shoot at the CRC. This time a red-tailed hawk. This was the first day of shooting. I would position myself at one of the pond as the bird flew out, then move to another position as the bird flew back. This is a flight back shot and I like the way the light is hitting the hawk. Got lucky with the timing on the wings down position and hitting the water. Thanks to Mathew and Cameron for handling the birds. Hope you like it. Ontario, Canada, October 2017

More from the shoot at the CRC. This time an Eagle Owl. This was the first day of shooting. I didn’t realize how big these owls were, but they are sizable. Also, their orange eyes are really cool. Having shot several angled approach shots, I tried doing a full profile landing. The backlighting works nicely here to put a glow in owl's wings. It was a bit of work removing the landing pad as he had just started to grab it. Thanks to Howard Brodsky for guidance on the shoot and to Mathew and Cameron for handling the birds. Hope you like it. More from the shoot at the CRC. This juvenile female snowy owl was absolutely beautiful. I'm looking forward to working her into some composited winter scenes. Processing was all done in Adobe Camera Raw. Thanks to Howard for guidance and set ups on the shoot and to James for handling the birds. Hope you like it.
