Just returned home from a holiday to Hawaii's Big Island. Saw a lot of great sights. Their was no surface lava flowing anywhere on the island, but the island is full of interest even without it. Someday, the lava will flow again, and I'll return. After waiting 1 and half hours to pick up my rental car, there was only a half hour left before sunset to find a beach and get set up. So I headed to Mahai'ula beach. There were no clouds over the water to work with, so I pointed inland. Following a phrase heard from Ralph Lee Hopkins, "Find the light and shoot what's in it." Having to be on a conference call for work at sunrise and no cell reception at the parking area at Pololu, I had to settle for the hour afterwards. From what I saw of the sky during the sunrise on the call, it was pretty incredible. Oh well, I can't complain with this view. This is a 4 exposure HDR (6 were taken, but only needed 4 of them) with a ton of local adjustments made to bring the scene back to looking natural. Big Island, Hawaii, USA, December 2017
