Rose early that morning to do a little night photography using the light of an almost full moon. It was a bit of luck to get the International Space Station tracking next to Balanced Rock as it was only visible for just a couple/few minutes ... something unexpected but a nice surprise. This is a manual focus stack of two images in order to get the near rocks in focus with the open aperture. Stopping down was not an option if I wanted to keep the stars as points of light. Okay, here is my eclipse image. Pretty basic compared to some of the other great compositions I've seen from others. We had wispy clouds the night of the September 27 eclipse. This series of shots are about 4 minutes apart as the moon approached full eclipse. Shot from my backyard. When you don't have a decent foreground subject, just make lots of moons! It seems we won't see another full lunar eclipse for several years, so I'm glad to have seen this one. Keller, Texas, USA, September 2015

It was before twilight that morning with the moon low on the horizon, the part of day between night and morning. The wind was blowing hard and steady and the temperature was 20 degrees fahrenheit without the wind chill. Easy to understand why I was the only person there, but it was very peaceful and enjoyable despite the conditions. Even with a tripod, it was necessary to stand behind it to provide a wind break in order get a sharp shot with the long-exposure. It's still not too sharp, but I like the quality of the light from the moon and the shadows across the hoodoos. Only one bad part of the morning is that I lost one of my favorite hats when it blew off my head and down the cliff. Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah, USA, December 2015

Trying a little night photographing while visiting friends. View from the shore of their lake house. It was going to be a near full moon, so I would not be able to attempt the milky way, but it was nice that some campers across the lake made a fire. Greenville, South Carolina, USA, April 2016
