Looking for a composition in a Purple Shield plant at the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, which is well worth the price of admission. Did a lot of dodging and burning on this image. Persian shield is a large, evergreen perennial known for its vibrant foliage. The iridescent purple leaves shimmer with a hint of silver. Known scientifically as Strobilanthes dyerianus. Autumn color and the sky reflect in the tarn while a stiff breeze blows the grasses in the background. I also shot this with no wind, but liked the windy version better for the motion. The foreground grasses were largely protected from the wind.

Walking around looking at the ground, I found the red leaf on the ground next to the dark rock, and all the subtle pinks, greens and browns. But things work better in threes, so I added the yellow and multicolor leaves. Acadia National Park, Maine, USA, October 2018
