Took some time to visit Great Smoky Mountains National Park for the first time. The autumn color was excellent. This is first image taken on the trip, early twilight at Oconaluftee Valley Lookout. No clouds that morning, but a nice color gradient in the sky. Because of the broad range in the light, I took this in three exposures to avoid noise in the shadow areas and processed them using Adobe Camera Raw's HDR feature. Happy Wapiti Wednesday. One thing you can be sure of is that elk are not on your schedule. We photographers waited all morning for the elk to cross the river ... their usual routine ... emphasis on "usual" because that morning they just weren't budging. I kept the focus on the front calf in this case with the bull keeping a watchful eye in the background. I have other bull photographs to share later in better settings.
