Not a Hot Wheels copy as such but certainly using a wheel design associated with that brand is this little model of the BMW i8 by a Chinese toy company using the initials LR. This dramatic ground breaking car is strangely rarely seen in this scale by LR have done a good job in capturing its unusual lines especially considering this is an unlicensed casting. I say unlicensed as their is no BMW badging or wording anywhere on this model or box but the packaging which is virtually all in Chinese does state this is an i8! Mint and boxed.

Smart looking Audi R8 V10 model by the chinese toy company LR. Its a blatant copy of the original Hot Wheels and rather like the products of Mattels favourite brand it is available in many different colours which keeps things more interesting. Although it does say R8 V10 on the packaging this is not a licensed casting but apart from the obvious lack of badging this is actually a realistic looking diecast which is nicely detailed and tastefully finished. The copying theme continues with the packaging as this Audi is part of their "Speed & Furious" range which gives more than a nod to the famous similar sounding movie franchise. Mint and boxed.

Such a hugely expensive and outrageously fast car such as the Pagani Huayra certainly deserves this equally outrageous chrome gold paint finish. Free from any worries of offending Pagani licensors, LR, the Chinese toy company who makes this little diecast can use whatever colour they like and are seemingly not too concerned that its a blatant Hot Wheels copy either right down to those unique five spoke wheels! No interior sadly but overall a decent little model which is well made and realistically cast. Part of their blingtastic Speed Racing GT series and bought directly from China. Mint and boxed.

The 1970 Dodge Charger R/T is perhaps not the type of U.S. Muscle Car you would expect to find in the average cheapo Chinese diecast line up but when that toy manufacturer is LR then its game on for pretty much anything....as long as its featured in the Hot Wheels line up! The continuing unstoppable success of the HW brand even in countries such as China means domestic manufacturers are sitting up and taking notice and are becoming even more blatant in their copying. This Dodge looks almost identical to the original even down to the wheel design, casting quality and the way chrome effect plastic has been used for the front and rear panels thus making it a decent looking model even if it is completely unlicensed. Part of their Speed & Furious range whose name has more than a passing resemblance to a certain movie franchise. Bought recently directly from China. Mint and boxed.

The blatant copying which goes on within the Chinese toy industry never ceases to amuse me and is perfect for my unusual collecting habits. Admittedly i'm more used to collecting copies of Tomica and Matchbox but I recently discovered a company who trades under the initials LR and who's products are almost entirely made up of copies of more recent Hot Wheels castings. This Porsche 911 GT3 RS is typical of their output in terms of quality which is surprisingly acceptable, there is no interior but the casting is pretty accurate and external features such as lights have tampo detailing. What I do like about the products of LR over the original Hot Wheels is the fact that all their models and castings are free from garish logos and flames. Bought directly from China. Mint and boxed.
