Despite being offered in a variety of different colour schemes you don't get to pick which one when buying from a vending machine and thus I ended up with another pale blue Stasto Suzuki Lapin.
Theres a lot to love about this all plastic 1/64 scale model which as you can see is as detailed as any vending machine toy ought to be and all for the price of a basic Mainline Hot Wheels! Super detailed to collector standards on all four sides even intricate factory accurate wheels plus an opening rear hatch.

The Kei car is still king in Japan and surely none are quite as cute as the Suzuki Lapin, a car I saw a LOT of whilst over there recently. It does retro without being too cliched and offers a chic alternative to some of its more boxy competitors and of course inexpensive to run.
This gorgeous little model is made by Stasto who usually offer their products through the many vending machines you can find in various retailers. Because of that their construction is entirely of plastic but they are cheap to buy and offer startling amounts of detailing and accuracy. Well, once you've finished off completing it yourself which involves fitting the roof rack and front panel. An opening rear hatch was an unexpected touch.

It may have been a tad fiddly to fit certain parts but i'm so glad I managed to find another example of the Stasto Suzuki Alto Works in a vending whilst in Japan. Available in several colours though unfortunately you don't get a choice of what the machine dispenses, its a very impressively cast and detailed little model which is made entirely of plastic.
Honestly that really shouldn't effect your judgement of what is in effect a collector grade toy car in terms of features and realism. The real car may be tiny but in Works form it takes on a more aggressive stance and one which I did see many of whilst in Japan.

I never thought i'd appreciate the idea of all plastic model cars sold in vending machines and dispensed in plastic egg shaped packaging but thats before I visited Japan. They are collector and novelty crazy over there and probably explains why so far it has proven to be the most fertile country i've EVER visited for finding diecasts.
This super cute Suzuki Alto Works is made by a company called Stasto and comes partly dismantled which you have to put together yourself. Most of it is easy to assemble except the very fiddly headlights and front spot lights which required a bit of patience and a bit of glue.
Its all plastic content doesn't detract from the fact its beautifully cast, satisfying in the detail department and even features a realistic interior. Not bad for the equivalent of less than 2.00.

From a UK point of view its almost unbelievable you can buy diecasts of this caliber for just 2.00 from a vending machine! The Japanese are vending machine mad, I believe they have far more there than anywhere else on the planet and the products of Stasto can be found in such places.
Their Suzuki Lapin is an absolute joy in hand, cute in size and styling just like the real vehicle and despite its all plastic construction is modelled to almost premium standards. Like many capsule diecasts you do have to do some assembly yourself which in this instance you have to fit the roof rack and front grille piece. Even its wheels are super intricate and super accurate and to top it off it has an opening rear tailgate.
