United Kingdom, London, Hammersmith, Autumn 2024

Tucked away in the shadow of Hammersmith Bridge, on the Hammersmith riverside there is the Blue Anchor pub, a traditional pub that offers a peaceful retreat from the London chaos. Many scenes from the movie Sliding Doors were filmed in this location. A scene from the movie Bohemian Rhapsody was shot in the Rutland Arms pub.

Italy, Tuscany, Marina Pisa, Winter 2023

During the last couple of years many storms hit the coast of Tuscany. Among the victims of this catastrophe were some of the retoni, iconic structures deputed to fishing that characterize the skyline of some stretches of the Arno River and in particular its mouth known as Bocca d’Arno. These structures are simple, mostly wooden huts built on stilts on which are hoisted fixed fishing nets, which used to be lowered into the water by hand crank. The retoni, as they are called in Tuscany, also take on the name of bilance or trabucchi in other parts of Italy, and today they have mainly a tourist function, and are included within guided tours and experiences aimed at patrons. These constructions with an ancient tradition played a role of primary importance in the economy of the area until the middle of the early twentieth century, and then lost it, however, taking on connotations of strong identity and landscape value, in scenic complexes that unravel between the sea and the Apuan mountains that serve as a backdrop. The retoni are thus a defining element of the Bocca d’Arno landscape, so much so that they have also received great attention from representations involving the river resort, from literary to pictorial to photography and cinema.

Germany, Berlin, Trabiworld and Weltballon, Summer 2024

Trabant is a series of small cars produced from 1957 until 1991 by former East German car manufacturer VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau. The first model, the 500, was a relatively modern car when it was introduced. Because this 1950s design remained largely unchanged until the introduction of the last model in 1990, the Trabant became symbolic of the former East Germany's stagnant economy and the collapse of the Eastern Bloc in general. Called "a spark plug with a roof", 3,096,999 Trabants were produced. Older models have been sought by collectors in the United States due to their low cost and fewer restrictions on the importation of antique cars. The Trabant also gained a following among car tuning and rallying enthusiasts.
Berlin’s Weltballon in Berlin-Mitte is among the world’s biggest helium-filled balloons and offers a spectacular view of Berlin!

Germany, Berlin, Brandenburg Gate, Summer 2024

The Brandenburg Gate is an 18th-century neoclassical monument in Berlin. One of the best-known landmarks of Germany, it was erected on the site of a former city gate that marked the start of the road from Berlin to Brandenburg. The current structure was built from 1788 to 1791 by orders of King Frederick William II of Prussia, based on designs by the royal architect Carl Gotthard Langhans. The bronze sculpture of the quadriga crowning the gate is a work by the sculptor Johann Gottfried Schadow. The gate forms the monumental entry to Unter den Linden, which leads directly to the former City Palace of the Prussian monarchs (now housing the Humboldt Forum museum), and the Berlin Cathedral. Throughout its existence, the Brandenburg Gate was often a site for major historical events. After World War II and during the Cold War, until its fall in 1989, the gateway was obstructed by the Berlin Wall, and was for almost three decades a marker of the city's division. Since German reunification in 1990, it has been considered not only a symbol of the tumultuous histories of Germany and Europe, but also of European unity and peace.
