Veliky Novgorod, Russia
Church of Vlasius (St Blaise) was built in stone in 1407 at the expense of the inhabitants of the pottery sloboda instead of the previous wooden church. Not so big or bright, but very distinctive, this church was one of the most important in the city. Later the church was rebuilt many times, and almost completely destroyed by the end of WWII. After restoration in 1954-1959, the appearance is very different from what it was in the 19th century, but closer to the original version of the 15th century.

I'm 52, and just during my lifetime the official history of Russia has been rewritten so many times that it's appropriate to say: Russia is a country with an unpredictable past. Nevertheless, in one thing most historians more or less agree - this history began with the fact that in 862 Varangian chieftain Rurik began to rule the Novgorod land. Therefore, in 1862, a majestic monument was erected in Novgorod in honor of the 1000th anniversary of Russia. Among the depicted persons there is Rurik - from this angle he is approximately in the center, holding a shield with the inscription “Лета STO”, and more than 100 other people who played a significant role in the history of the country by that time.
