Despite the loud calling and wing-flapping, the adults seem to know whose turn it is to be feed.

Whiskered Tern

Normally they just pluck from the surface, but the rolling of the waves must add an extra challenge to the hunt.

Australasian Gannet

The Gannests have a small colony near the entrance to Port Phillip.
When the tide, the winds and season is right, shoals of fish come up the bay, and the Gannets follow them.
They usually come on a strong wind, and seem to effortlessly move with barely a wing flap.

Australian Magpie

Studio Werkz is a project from many years ago.
Working a black subject on a black backdrop can be challenging.

I've become quite familar with this young Maggie since it fledged.
It flew in to make a stand in a small shaft of sunlight. The high raking light gave just the seperation I wanted.
It started to practice its song, while I hummed the melody :-)
