Growing here at 250m altitude on the rocky hillside on the northern more exposed side of Whoota Mountain in Wallingat National Park just south of Wallis Lake on the NSW Mid North Coast.
Xanthorrhoea fulva and X. latifolia both hybridise with X. johnsonii in Queensland but no indications that this happens in NSW. A population of X.fulva does exist though at sea level in Wallingat NP and I am uncertain if X.latifolia occurs in this area at this time.
I had initally thought this plant could have been possibly Xanthorrhoea latifolia subsp. latifolia but subsequent investigation, including taking a local botanist to see the plants now seems to confirm this species as Xanthorrhoea johnsonii.

On a trip to Central Queensland recently I was fortunate to see Livistona nitida in Carnarvon Gorge (Unfortunately not in flower or fruit) then Livistona fulva flowering magnificently on the Blackdown Tableland. At Gladstone Livistona decora was in both flower and fruit. Returning home I was therefore determined to catch Livistona australis in flower in either Booti Booti or Wallingat National Park so I took a trip to the amazingly panoramic Whoota Lookout. Whoota Lookout is in the Wallingat National Park just to the south of Wallis Lake, south of Forster in NSW.
I was indeed fortunate because these Livistona australis were flowering every bit as spectacularly as those seen in Queensland with the added benefit of being able to be close to eye level looking down on the palms below from the steep road up to the lookout.
