I have already posted a few 1974 shots from this location but as today's overgrown view is so uninspiring I felt like reminding myself of its former glory .
We are looking east along the ex-MS&LR, GCR, LNER & BR main line from Doncaster towards Thorne Junction. The station and four track line dates from the Great Central Railway's 1912 rebuild.
The numerous sidings and mineral wagons attest to the importance of the coal industry at this time & Hatfield colliery's infrastructure looms over the scene.
The first generation BR multiple unit arriving in Stainforth & Hatfield station is controlled by a forest of semaphore signals.

As part of the Dordt in Stoom festival a top and tail steam-hauled train was run from Dordrecht station along the NS line towards Sliedrecht before turning sharp left northwards around a lake on a freight-only line to a chemical plant. This 2.5 minute video shows the train which ran at the 1998 festival.
DB-Baureihe 23 Arnold Jung Lokomotivfabrik 2-6-2 23023 built in 1952 and DB-Baureihe 65 Krauss-Maffei 2-8-4T 65018 dating from 1955 were in charge outwards and return respectively.
Both engines are of German origin and owned by SSN (Stoom Stichting Nederland) based in Rotterdam.

24 was possibly working a Rushall service on the last day of trams on the Walsall Wood route
