87022 rounds the corner into Sindel with 90680 Razdelna-Ruse which, on this occasion, had no traffic. Whereas in the UK, the headcode would be changed to reflect this, it is the custom in Bulgaria for the train number to remain unchanged.
The number of BRC 87s being used in traffic seems to be dwindling of late - whether due to a decrease in traffic or some other reason - and this was one of only 5 (out of 15) locos in traffic this day.
87022 has been in Bulgaria for approaching 10 years and in this time has suffered a fire which saw a full repaint into GBRF livery carried out as part of the repair - one of only three locos to date which have been repainted.

The sun is just about to set as the crew of 87012 prepare for departure from Razdelna. Unusually with no helper machine, this train will travel through the night to reach Pirdop the next morning where the sulphuric acid tanks will be refilled at the copper works before then making the return journey. Sulphuric acid is a by product of the copper refining process and up to three trains a day travel loaded from Pirdop to the Port of Varna where it is transhipped and taken away by sea going tanker.
Since arriving in Bulgaria in 2008, 87012 has had a complete overhaul at Craiova in Romania in 2014/2015 which, surprisingly, saw its NSE livery re-applied along with the UIC number displayed on the front end.
