It had all come down to this: the Norns demanded the Valkyries either help them turn back the tide of Norsemen turning to Christianity, or die and allow the Norns to use the demon horde to destroy the believers in the one God!

And they were holding the threads of the lives of Äse, Runa and Saga in their hands, ready to cut them off, literally snipping off the rest of their lives!

"Tell usssss, give usss your ansswerrr, ssservantss of the Allfather," they demanded. "Will you have life, or deathhh?"

"I'll never help you with your dark sorcery and mass murders," Runa said flatly. "If that means that I die, then I die."

The mighty Valkyrie's burning brightness was a reflection of her determination, and it forced the Norns to shield their eyes more, and the demon horde surrounding them to squeal in pain and fear.

Äse was silent, but her katana blade flashed as she drew it, looking as though it was on fire as the light that worked within her flowed through the steel. She only shook her head grimly and said, "No."

But Saga laughed at the Norns. She finally understood.

Her two friends had noted how quiet and serious she seemed all day. And though she'd insisted to them that she was fine, it hadn't been true.

"Who are you, my Lord," she had asked the voice that had spoken to her the previous night.

And the voice had answered. "Watch the Princess. Before you leave to confront the Norns, she will show you who I am."

And so Saga had waited impatiently as she and her sisters prepared to leave, wondering where Thyra was. The others wanted to depart, and soon! Everyone was saying goodbye!

Sten had hugged her tight and told her he would be waiting for her to return.

But the young Valkyrie didn't think she WOULD return, and she refused to promise she would, even though Runa had been promising Ulf that very thing.

"Don't worry, my King," her friend was telling the King. "Those old hags can't stop us!"

Saga marvelled at the other girl. Runa hardly seemed concerned!!!

And then Thyra had appeared. Finally!

The young woman looked at the Princess curiously.

"The voice told me Thyra would show me," she thought. "But she looks totally norm…"

She stopped in mid-thought. Thyra DID look normal. Except her Thor's Hammer amulet was missing. Mjolnir had been replaced! With a silver cross!

Was Thyra signaling that she was a follower of the one God, now? It certainly looked that way!

Saga knew immediately in her heart that it was true. And as the one God had told her she would, Thyra was showing the Valkyrie whose voice she had heard.

And she knew the one God had given her power to protect the fates of her friends! They could destroy the Norns!

Saga had felt elated, but almost immediately, she had another worry.

"What happens if we destroy the Norns? Who will look after the tapestry," she had asked silently, hoping to hear the voice of the one God again.

But she had heard nothing then, and nothing as they travelled. Not even as they walked under the tree, amongst the tangled roots of Yggdrasil.

All through their journey to the lair of the Norns, Saga had fretted. If they destroyed the Norns, it might also actually destroy the tapestry in the process! And that would destroy the people she loved!

But now, as she prepared to fight for her life and the lives of everyone else, she saw. As her own light grew in power, she saw something she wasn't expecting. Something she could not explain. Not at first.

She saw threads of light, more and more of them. They were alongside the tapestry of fate maintained by the Norns. They increased in number steadily until they were much too many to be counted. Soon the whole world seemed as though it could barley contain them!

And as Saga watched, she saw the threads start to form into something. Something familiar-looking. It was as if they were part of a weave all their own. The Valkyrie gasped as it hit her!

There was not a SINGLE tapestry. There were two!!!

But where the Norns' tapestry grew thin and threadbare, the second tapestry grew thicker, richer and more beautiful.

And Saga knew what she must do.

"You need a better threat than cutting our threads out of your tapestry. I won't let you hurt us," the young Valkyrie responded to the Norns. And she lifted her hands, the heavenly light pulsing out of her to envelope the Norns' tapestry - all of it.

The Norns cried out as if they were being burnt, and they let go of the threads they'd been holding, drawing back, away from the tapestry in pain and horror!

"Noooooo," they cried. "You cannot take the tapesssstryyyyy from ussssss!"

"I can, and I will," Saga replied, and she started to weave the two tapestries together. The tale of the entire Norse world, and everything in it, she started adding to the second tapestry, fitting all the threads into their proper places.

But it was a BIG JOB. There were countless threads to weave together! It would take time to finish! Did Saga have the time she needed?

"Desssssstroy themmm," the Norns cried, casting their words in the form of a black sorcery spell of command. "They MUSSSTT DIEEEE!!!"

And even though the demons seemed deathly afraid of the light-wielding Valkyries, they stormed forward en masse, as if some powerful force compelled them.

Äse and Runa joined battle with seething horde of evil, leaping to meet the foe! Runa fired blast after blast of heavenly fire, obliterating demons - sometimes two or three at a time! And every time Äse cut a demon, the foul beast would immediately catch fire! Any demon it touched as it flailed around would also start to burn white hot.

In moments, the fires were a conflagration, and the stench of burning demon filled the air!

The demons howled in fear and pain, but they kept coming. It looked like there might be a thousand of them! The battle was ON!

In Bollurgard, King Ulf had been in prayer to Odin all evening, asking for protection for his wife and her two Valkyrie friends. Finally, weary with his worries, he laid down in his bed.

It felt empty without Runa in it with him!

"By the Gods, that woman's troubles are bigger than a horde of demons," he muttered. Not that he would trade a single second of his time with her. "Just bring her back to me safely, Allfather!"

Finally the King sighed, and eventually he fell into a restless sleep.

When he awoke some time later, it was the dead of night, and behold! He saw his beloved wife, Runa, coming to him!

"My King," she said softly, crawling into bed. "The demons are routed and the Norns are defeated. I have returned as I said I would!"

"My Queen," the man said with delight, taking her in his arms and kissing her. "How did you defeat the Norns?"

"Shhhhhh, my King, we can talk later. I want you," she told him.

And she settled on top of him, gasping with pleasure as he entered her. As he began to thrust into her, Runa leaned forward to kiss him deeply.

His beloved was so warm and wet and tight for him as he made love to her, and she felt like his whole world. But soon Ulf felt something was wrong. He couldn't breath!

Her tongue. It was in his mouth, but where at first her tongue kisses had felt delightful, now it was going down his throat! He was gagging and coughing as he pushed her up and back until finally she was out of his mouth!

"What's the matter, man of Midgard, don't you like my loving," she asked him with a mix of lust and malevolence, and now Ulf saw as she spoke that it wasn't Runa at all!

It was some demon!!! It had horns on its head! And her skin was mostly purple! The worst part was it was beautiful to behold, in the form of a lovely woman, but its eyes burned with malice!

It dove back at him, its impossibly long, thick tongue trying to force its way into his mouth again even as it continued to ride him like a horse! He was still inside it!

Horrified and filled with sudden revulsion, the King managed to pry the demoness off him and toss it off the bed! But it was back in moments trying to clamber on his back as he leaped away!

He was only just able to reach his blade in time to whip it around almost blindly, knowing the nasty creature was just behind him.

The demoness' snarl turned to a gasp as the steel bit home, and the next thing Ulf saw was its head falling. It bounced off the wooden floor before turning into a noxious puff of smoke!

'By the Gods," he muttered as he looked for any more demons who needed killing. It was only after several moments that the man realized his member was still as hard as iron. As if it remembered how the demoness had felt around it. When he'd been inside it.

"Maybe Runa doesn't need to know about this," he muttered as he shuddered in disgust.

He might have thought twice about the whole idea, but he was promptly interrupted.

CLANG, CLANG, CLANG, CLANG, CLANG!!!!

It was the bell in the guard tower! The village was under attack!

In a few seconds, Ulf burst out of his bedchamber, where he saw both Sten and Thyra also coming out of their own spaces, looking bleary-eyed but ready to fight.

"To arms," the King cried, and they took up his cry. Soon every warrior in the village was meeting near the guard tower!

"My King, a large demon force approaches," the guard called.

The King frowned. That didn't sound good. If Runa was winning, why would demons be coming here? But Ulf coudln't worry about that, now. His men needed him!

"Let us send them back to the outer darkness, then," he cried out in a loud voice. "That will teach them not to wake us in the middle of the night!!!"

"HUAHHHH!!!!" the men all shouted.

shot in FS, no post prcessing at least for now :) until I added 1) some lense blur to the background and 2) some flames for Crashy's katana. oh and 3) I fixed Anne's eyes, which were supposed to be closed, but which her closed eye animation failed to do (as usual, I should know better by now). so I fixed it using the liquify tool/filter to push her eyelids down and up til her eyes were closed. kind of a pain, but really good practice for me! :) that's a pretty major edit, really, since those half closed eyes really RUINED the photo for me. i can't NOT see them. but now I can :)

oh yeah, I cropped it closer to the girls and lightened it so you can see the demons better!
