So... Whilst playing a card game with the grandkids on Boxing Day (the equivalent of 'Call My Bluff' )... it came to light that a 'Wink-a-puss' is an old English nickname for an owl. Didn't know that, which lost me the point :@[

Another year gone by in the blink of an eye, (the last few weeks I've sadly missed out on due to a megadose of the dreaded COVID, hence the lack of activity on flickr. Really knocked me for six this time, but on the mend now )...
Another a great year for firsts and the odd surprise too...
With Greater Scaup, Bordered Shieldbug, Rufous-shouldered longhorn beetle, American Golden-Plover, Gull-billed tern, Denticulate Leatherbug, Figwort and Willow Mason Wasps, Musk longhorn beetle, Bishop's-mitre Parasite fly, Reed Sac Spider, Six-spotted and Forest Buff Snail-killer flies, Pill Millipede, Meadow-sweet aphid, Chequered Click Beetle, the stunning Scarlet darter and the very rare Cliff tiger beetle on the list to mention a few.
Anyway... Hope you all had a jolly good year behind the lens, and that next year's as good, if not better.
Merry Christmas !!:@)

So frustrating... After the weeks of cloud, every day the sun's been out I've had to work... And now I've got covid Grrr...
Anyway, to make up for the lack of posts, here's a hornet from October. :@\

Popped out on the levels for lunch today... Lots of Shovelers, Wigeon and Teal at Catcott now, and a few Pintails too, but not in ranger. A Peregrine did a quick flyby but was ignored by the ducks.

Photographed over the road from Westhay, in what can only be described as challenging light... The weatherman says the sun will return next week, so if the birds still around I'll have another go... :@)
