This courthouse was built in 1914 and looks almost indistinguishable from the De Soto Parish Courthouse in Mansfield. They were both designed by the firm of Favrot & Livaudais.

It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.

This Romanesque Revival courthouse was built in 1889. Jason Freret was the architect. It is a contributing property to the Donaldsonville Historic District, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

In 1830 and 31 the community of Donaldsonville briefly acted as Louisiana's state capital. The Capitol building that served from Donaldsonville stood in the large park across the street from this great red brick courthouse. That building was eventually dismantled and the bricks from it were used to build up the levees in this parish.

This courthouse with plastered walls is very characteristic of Louisiana, or Acadian, architecture. It was built in 1896 with the designs of the architectural firm of Harrod and Andry of New Orleans. It was built by M. T. Lewman and Company of Louisville, Kentucky. The Assumption Parish Courthouse and Jail were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

This was the 300th courthouse in the United States that I visited.

This courthouse was built in 1927 using the designs of Herman J. Duncan. Inside the building there are a number of black-and-white images of this courthouse's construction and its 19th century predecessors.

The name of this parish is pronounced uh-VOYLZ.
