Erected in 1796-99, this wooden structure is the oldest standing building in Montgomery County. It was built for George Newcom who used the facility as his home and as a tavern and inn for travelers. It originally stood at the intersection of Main Street and Water Street (now Monument Avenue) in what is now Downtown Dayton and acted as Montgomery County's first courthouse and jail. It was relocated to Carillon Historical Park and is now a part of the outdoor, or open-air, museum on the premises.

Dayton, Ohio is a lovely small city located in the southwestern part of the state that holds a special status in the history of trade, industry, commerce, literature, and economy. It is the hometown of early aviationists Wilbur and Orville Wright, National Cash Register (NCR Corporation), and poet and writer Paul Laurence Dunbar.

Built in 1892, this Victorian structure served as the Troup County Jail until the 1930s, when a newer facility was built alongside the new courthouse. It was converted into the Chattahoochee Valley/LaGrange Art Museum in 2001.

It is a contributing property to the LaGrange Commercial Historic District, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

LaGrange is a charming town located to the southwest of Atlanta and to the north of Columbus in western Georgia. It serves as the seat of Troup County.
