Erected in 1908, this Beaux Arts courthouse was designed by South Carolina native William Augustus Edwards, of the firm Edwards, Walter, & Parnham. Edwards designed a number of other courthouses and schools in the Southeast. An arcade connects it to the adjoining Abbeville Opera House and Municipal Center, which Edwards also designed. The edifice was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. It is also a contributing property to the Abbeville Historic District, listed in 1972.
Abbeville, South Carolina is a lovely town located in the Piedmont region of the state near the border with Georgia. It serves as the seat of Abbeville County, which is alphabetically the first county in the United States.

After the county government relocated to a newer building in the early 2000s, the building hosted the Idaho State Legislature while the 1906 State Capitol was being renovated.

S. E. Maxon designed this 1891 Romanesque courthouse. It has a great town square that reminds me of Magnolia, Arkansas and Boise City, Oklahoma.
The town of Greenfield is featured in the 1971 movie Cold Turkey starring Dick Van Dyke. The movie is a bit whacky, but it gives watchers a glimpse of what Adair County and Greenfield looked like back in the early 1970s.
