This great 1905-06 Romanesque Revival courthouse was designed by the firm of Bruce Architectural Company of Birmingham. It replaced the county's 1870 whitewashed courthouse that still stands a bit south of this structure on Court Street.
The structure is a contributing property to the Daniel Pratt Historic District, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Built in 1870 with the designs of local architect George Littlefield Smith, this Italianate structure stands in the middle of downtown Prattville on Court Street. It was used as the county's capitol until 1906.

This structure is one of two county courthouses for Barbour County, Alabama. The county's other capitol is located in the lovely and historic community of Eufaula. Carl Herbert Lancaster, Jr. was the architect responsible for this building's design. It was erected in 1961 by contractors from the Mid-South Construction Company.
Barbour County is one of six counties in the Yellowhammer State with dual seats.

The Barbour County Courthouse in Eufaula was originally built in 1924 in Beaux Arts style by constructors from the Shields-Guice Lumber Company. It was expanded and renovated in 1986 using the designs of architects Bondheim & Mixon. Contractors from the Anderson Construction Company built the additions.
The other Barbour County Courthouse is located in Clayton. Barbour County is one of six Alabama counties with two capitals.
