Built in 1928, this is one of the nicest courthouses in southwestern North Dakota. It was designed by architects Ira Rush and Fred R. Comb, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Hettinger, pronounced HET-ing-ger (with a hard G), is located on United States Highway 12 in southwestern North Dakota between Lemmon, South Dakota and Bowman. Adams County is not to be confused with Hettinger County, which is located to the north of Adams County with its seat at the town of Mott.
I find it interesting that Adams County, North Dakota was not named for one of the presidents named Adams but was named after a man named John Quincy Adams, who was a railroad agent who was instrumental in having the Chicago, Milwaukee and Saint Paul Railroad built through the state. It is one of 12 Adams Counties in the United States.

Barnes County is located in southeastern North Dakota directly west of Cass County and the city if Fargo.

This structure was erected in Minnewaukan in 1900 using the designs of the Grand Forks firm of Russell and Crandall. D. A. Lord constructed it.

The county's previous courthouse, which was built in 1913, still stands next door.
Medora is supposed to be the largest tourist destination for the state of North Dakota. Its a lovely town with a beautiful Badlands backdrop, and it is also very near to Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

This former courthouse, today the Medora Museum, was originally built in the 1880s with a remodeling in 1913 designed by John Tester. It stands next door the the 1985 Billings County Courthouse. It is one of few remaining wood-frame courthouses left in the Great Plains. The structure was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
