Mid 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay, gabled Jacobean villa with single bay, single storey addition at E. Coursed, polished sandstone ashlar with polished quoins and long and short surrounds. Base course; string course and balustrade with pierced strapwork to each advanced single storey bay; string course and cornice to both floors of 2-storey canted bay; crowstepped gables.
Notable for it's crowstepped gables and strapwork balconies. Built under Alexander Black (probably to his design c.1850), who died in 1858, as part of the Heriot Trust feus.

Picturesque cottages overhanging the Water of Leith built to the design of David McArthy and John Watson, 1894. Single storey and basement harled cottages with red sandstone quoins and long and short surrounds. Centred inscription above principal window to SW elevation; 1676 heraldic panel to gable of central projecting bay (shown on close-up). Inscription: In accordance with the will of George Pape of Coltbridge House these cottages were built for the use of three poor widows in all time coming AD 1894.

A very fine terrace in Murrayfield by respected architect Frederick Thomas Pilkington, 1869. Comprises a pair of symmetrical 5-bay blocks with very fine masonry detailing. Friezes and rosettes to gables.
